My 2024 Poetry Haul
75: Happy Christmas & Merry Poetry! It’s the most wonderful time of the year… the time when I share poems from each month of the year!

Writing a Poem A Day
In 2021, I kept the first New Year’s resolution I have ever kept: writing one poem a day all year. One days I forgot or was too busy, I tried to channel the feelings of the previous day or write about something that happened that day. It really helped to have this in place so that I would continue even if I forgot sometimes.
NOW, it’s my FOURTH YEAR of writing a poem a day and I honestly look forward to sharing them all year. Having my blog has helped me focus on writing 24/7, so I’m always turning my life happenings into writing or expressive art of some kind. This year, writing has continued to be a lifeline for me as my husband and I experienced what I can only describe as a life-changing, heart-wrenching event. So, as one might assume, this year’s poetry reflects that chaos.
It’s the year of VULNERABILITY!
It’s the year of ANGRY, ANGRY POEMS!
And, man, is it the year of some very painful days and therefore:
p a i n f u l p o e t r y.
(Trigger Warning: gore & graphic depictions, mention of suicidal thoughts)
Thankfully, there’s a lot to learn from pain and a lot of growing had to happen for me to survive it. I grew so much this year— as a writer, an artist, a mother, a partner, and a person overall. One of the coolest new features of this level-up has been the confidence I have grown in myself. You’ll see this is reflected in my shared poetry this year, as I am sharing only full poems as opposed to snippets and tidbits. I am a poet, hear me roar!
Lastly, I wanted to mention that the poems that turned into songs for my album will not be included. It was hard not to, but— even though I have such a hard time keeping a secret and allowing there to be surprise— I want to keep the lyrics on the down-low so that they can be revealed in all their hard-earned glory!
